For the media, Hurricane Sandy ended after the weather got better, but actually it’s still happening for us in Long Beach, NY. We weren’t displaced from our house for very long, but the community continues to be socially disrupted: we can’t have our stop ‘n’ chats on the boardwalk anymore, because there is no boardwalk. It got completely washed away. It’s screwed up the whole routine here, because it was like our town square. They’ve started to rebuild. Now our town square is a construction site. But it’s coming back – slowly, it’s coming back.
When I come home after work, I can totally unwind because I live at the beach.
Photographing me is fine, but the portrait is really of this place. This place is like a person, an old friend.
